New Azerbaijan Ambassador meets PM Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD (TVI) — Azerbaijan’s newly appointed Ambassador Ali Fikrat Oglu Alizaidi called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at PM House on October 7, 2016 and vowed to expand relations between the two brotherly states to a new height.

Congratulating him on his appointment as Ambassador of the Azerbaijan Republic to Pakistan, the Prime Minister extended warm welcome to Ambassador Ali Fikrat Oglu Alizaidi.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also assured the ambassador of his government’s fullest cooperation and expressed the confidence that his service tenure in Pakistan would be successful and fruitful.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan wishes to strengthen its relations with Azerbaijan in various fields. The Prime Minister emphasized on translating the friendly bilateral relations into strong economic partnership with Azerbaijan.

“Our government focuses regional connectivity through economic cooperation to help people of the region realise their true potential. Enhancement of trade and business relations between Azerbaijan, Pakistan and amongst other countries of the region is our topmost priority”, Prime Minister stated.

H.E Mr Ali Alizaidi thanked the Prime Minister and expressed the confidence that bilateral relations between the two countries will improve with joint efforts of both the countries. SAPM Tariq Fatemi was also present during the meeting.

Islamabad and Baku maintain excellent political, strategic and defence relationship. Pakistan was the third country that recognized the Independence of Azerbaijan in 1991, after Turkey and Romania and one of the first countries that opened its embassy in Baku. Pakistan supports Azerbaijan’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and refuses to recognize Armenia due to its aggression over Azerbaijani lands. Azerbaijan is one of closest friendly countries that supports Pakistan’s efforts into the settlement of Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions.

Speaking at the celebration of Azerbaijan Republic Day on 28 May in Islamabad a senior Azerbaijan diplomat, Mr Chingiz Garibli, who served as the Charge d’Affairs here recalled that “Pakistan has always supported the Azeri stand on Nagorono-Karabakh. Azerbaijan supports right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination.”

Mr. Chingiz in his address lauded the close and friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan and noted that “the relations are continuity of history and geographical proximity”.
