At least nine students were killed and 37 people injured as four terrorists stormed the hostel of Peshawar’s Agriculture Training Institute

At least nine people were killed as burqa-clad militants stormed into Peshawar’s Agricultural Training Institute early Friday morning.

The attack took place on the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi holiday. Over 30 people, including a police sub-inspector, were injured in the attack.

According to reports, police, army and rapid forces personnel engaged the terrorists inside the building all terrorists were killed in the exchange of firing.

Hayatabad Medical Complex Director Shahzad Akbar said six dead and 18 injured had been brought to the hospital. While Khyber Teaching Hospital sources said they had received three bodies and 17 wounded.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the operation has been completed and all militants have been neutralised. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistan Army’s media wing said two soldiers were injured in the attack and shifted to the Combined Military Hospital for treatment. However, the three terrorists were killed in the operation.

According to initial reports, hospital sources said that there are seven students, one Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, one police officer, a guard, and a journalist among the wounded.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police said all terrorists have been neutralised after a “successful clearance operation” by security forces. SSP Operations Sajjad Khan told media that five attackers had been spotted wearing suicide jackets.

All roads leading to the area have been sealed as heavy firing continues inside. At least two explosions have been heard from inside the campus, Suicide jackets, three grenades, two bombs and one pistol were recovered from inside the building of the ATI.

The attacked area is a hub for educational institutions in the city including the University of Peshawar. Agricultural Training Institute is the sole organization of the province under the administrative control of Agriculture Department which is producing the front line soldiers (Field Assistants and Veterinary Assistants) of various wings of Agriculture Department since its establishment in 1957-58.
