Norway electric car sales surpass traditional vehicles in 2020

Norway moved a step closer to getting rid of vehicles running on fossil fuels as 54% of the country’s car sales constituted of electric cars. This is the first time a country has sold more cars than those running on traditional fuels. The Norwegian government is giving incentives on buying electric cars as the country plans to ban the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2025.

The four best-selling in Norway were the Audi e-tron, the Tesla Model 3, the Volkswagen ID.3, and the Nissan Leaf, all fully electric. The electric vehicles sale in 2019 were over 42%. Interesting, Norway itself is a major oil producer in the western world.

Diesel love fading away

Back in 2011, sale of diesel vehicles accounted for nearly 76%of vehicle sales in Norway. However, this figure is now less than 9%. This clearly shows that the strategies to attract buyers towards climate friendlier cars. Diesel engines are known for their power and much loved around the globe. However, the fact that they leave a significant carbon foot print is a major concern.

Time to act

The environment around the globe is getting damaged by the global warming. It is time for quick changes to be made in order to stop the planet from getting warmer. Electric vehicles have now become much more efficient as they can drive over longer distances. It is a good idea that other governments should follow suit and encourage the use of electric vehicles in their country as well.
