OIC expresses support for the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir

Must Read

The prison-like conditions in the occupied region were discussed and calls were made to India to give the people their rights

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) reaffirmed its “strong and unequivocal support” for disputed Kashmir by adopting a resolution unanimously in its meeting that took place in Niger. The two-day long meeting of the 57 members of the Muslim organization concluded on Saturday.

“The OIC categorically rejected illegal and unilateral actions taken by India since 5 August 2019,” the Pakistani foreign office said in a statement and added that OIB demanded that India “cancel the issuance of domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris” as well as other unilateral and illegal actions there.

Concerns for the people of Occupied Kashmir

OIC members expressed their concerns about the wellbeing of the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir where residents have been facing prison-like conditions since the Indian government’s move to cancel the constitutionally guaranteed rights of the people of Kashmir. The use of pellet guns against the protestors was a major point of concern. While the mortality rate with the pellets is low, many youths have lost their eyesight as a result. COVID-19 amid the strict lockdown in the occupied valley was another matter that came into the discussion.

Need to resolve the matter

It is high time that the world starts realizing that the Indian occupation in Jammu and Kashmir has brought pain and suffering to the millions living in the region. There are a number of UN resolutions that call for a plebiscite for the right of self-determination in the occupied region. However, India has made a mockery of the UN resolutions and continues to use heavy-handedness in suppressing the voice of the people.

Pakistan and India have had multiple wars primarily due to the same issue and peace cannot be achieved between the two nuclear-armed states unless the Kashmir dispute is resolved as per the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
