Pakistan acquires VT-4 main battle tanks from China

Pakistan confirmed it acquired Chinese origin third-generation Main Battle Tank VT-4 after a demonstration of its capabilities was held near Jhelum. The Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa was in attendance at the event. It is reported that the Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group Co.,Ltd., a unit of China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO) began delivering these tanks to Pakistan in April.

ISPR issued a statement that discussed the capabilities of Pakistan armed forces against any threats to the national sovereignty and the induction of these tanks is a part of maintaining operational readiness.

“This potent war fighting machine will be employed in an offensive role by strike formations after induction COAS said that Pakistan Army is alive to emerging challenges and regional threats,” the statement read.

“We are completely focused towards internal and external challenges to the defense of the country and prepared with matching response against all threats to sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Pakistan. COAS lauded troops for professionalism, operational readiness and highest training standards to meet challenges of modern-day battlefield requirements.”

The COAS said that the armed forces are focused on protecting the country from both internal and external threats. He added that any misadventure will be dealt with severely.

“We are completely focused [on] internal and external challenges to [the] defence of [the] country and prepared with matching response against all threats to sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Pakistan,” the ISPR said, quoting the army chief.

Pakistan has recently been threatened by India, a long-standing arch rival. The relations between the two countries have been on the rocks since India infiltrated Pakistan’s airspace and had two of its jets shot down with one of the pilots arrested. India has also been aggressive towards China, another major player in the area. With such additions to the arsenal, Pakistan’s armed forces are ready for any kind of challenge in the battlefield.
