Pakistan and Romania sign MoU on commerce, education

Pakistan and Romania signed Memoranda of Understanding on Monday, Jan. 10, to develop mutual cooperation in the trade and commerce industry of both countries along with the provision of educational scholarships to Pakistani students.

The signing of MoU took place between the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in an official ceremony which was witnessed by Romanian Minister for Economy Florin Spătaru and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is on a visit to Romania.

Pakistan’s Ambassador in Romania Dr. Zafar Iqbal signed the document which is termed quite essential for the promotion of bilateral trade and commerce.

Besides, another MoU was signed in a separate ceremony held at the Romanian foreign ministry for the provision of educational scholarships to Pakistani students by Bucharest Polytechnical University. This MoU was also signed by Dr. Zafar Iqbal, representing Pakistan while University Rector Mihnea Cosmin Costoiu represented Romania.

The ceremony was observed by Foreign Minister Qureshi and his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu. 

FM Qureshi’s Meeting with Romanian PM:

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciucă, on Monday, in which they discussed the bilateral matters, Afghanistan’s situation, and the human rights violation in the IIOJK.

The foreign minister told the Romanian PM that Pakistan wishes to establish wide-ranging and result-oriented ties with Romania and the current progress of the bilateral relations manifested the vision of the two leaderships.

The foreign minister also appreciated the anti-corona measures taken by Romania and thanked the country’s premier for a donation of 500,000 doses of anti-COVID vaccines to Pakistan by his government.

The Romania Prime Minister, Nicolae Ciucă lauded the role of Pakistan in the context of Afghanistan particularly for the evacuation of the Romanian citizens.

Discussing the regional and international matters, Mr. Qureshi mainly highlighted the Indian human rights violation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the situation in Afghanistan.
