Turkish President acknowledged Pakistan’s role for regional peace and stability

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara and discussed matters of mutual interest and regional security.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa discussed matters of mutual interest with the Turkish leader and thanked the Turkish president for “perennial Turkish support to Pakistan” and the country’s role in bringing peace and stability to the region, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Turkish President acknowledged sacrifices made by Pakistan and contributions by Pakistan Army in fight against terrorism and militancy.

“Islamic countries can contribute immensely towards global peace and stability and OIC offers a platform to do that through conflict resolution and dialogue,” Erdogan remarked during a meeting with General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Turkish Defence Minister Fikri Isik on Wednesday to discuss matters related to the regional situation and bilateral security cooperation, an ISPR press release said Wednesday.

During the meeting two leaders agreed upon the potential for cooperation in the fields of security policies, defence production and human resource training, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Sohail Mahmood was also present during the meeting.

COAS also visited the facility and took an introductory flight in T129 attack helicopter. He also warmly appreciated the indigenous technical prowess achieved by Turkey, ISPR added.

Speaking on the occasion, Gen. Bajwa warmly appreciated the indigenous technical prowess achieved by Turkey. Pakistan has a great technological and industrial potential which open the scope for very meaningful defence cooperation between the two countries.
