Pakistan Army Major becomes victim of Afghan firing

PESHAWAR – Pakistan Army’s Major Jawad Changezy, who had been injured during Monday’s clash with Afghanistan’s border security forces passed away on Tuesday.

Changezi belonged to Quetta and was deployed at the Torkham border’s zero-point, when he was shot. His funeral was attended by COAS Gen Raheel Shareef in Peshawar Corps Headquarters after which his body was flown to his hometown Quetta, according to military officials.

Pakistan army chief spokesman Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said on Monday that Afghan forces opened fire at Torkham on an under construction gate on Pakistani side.

Meanwhile a day after clash between Pakistani and Afghan security forces at Torkham border the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) released an image showing that the under construction gate at Torkham border is 37 meters inside Pakistan. This gate is considered essential to check and verify documentation of all border crossers. Will check move of terrorists the ISPR stated.

Due to the fire, at least five army personnel including Major Ali Jawad and Lt. Colonel were injured. Several civilians including women and children were also affected due to the firing, according to a statement released by the ISPR.

A similar border gate was also built on the Afghan side of border and handed over to the Afghan forces last month.
