Pakistan Army participates in UN peacekeeping exercise ‘Shared Destiny-2021’

Around 1,000 troops from Pakistan, China, Mongolia and Thailand participated in the drills

Pakistan Army recently participated in the multinational UN Peacekeeping Exercise “Shared Destiny-2021” with the troops of China, Mongolia and Thailand.

Around 1,000 troops participated in the 10-day exercise that concluded on September 15. It was conducted at the Queshan training base of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA). It was the first such multilateral UN peacekeeping field training exercise organized by the Chinese military.

“Participation of Pakistani contingent, their level of expertise and Pakistan’s continued large scale contribution to UN peacekeeping operations was greatly appreciated by all participants,” Pakistan military said.

The exercise involved infantry, quick reaction forces and helicopters.

The troops practised battlefield reconnaissance, vigilance and patrol, armed escort, protection of civilians, response to violent and terrorist attacks, setting up temporary operating bases, battlefield rescue and epidemic control.

Zhang Yiming, a commanding officer of the exercises, said the participating foreign troops have mastered the operation of all equipment involved in the drills and are carrying out professional training in their respective fields. 

Brigadier Shahid Amir Afsar, Pakistan’s Defense and Army Attaché to China, said the exercise was an excellent opportunity for participating militaries for cooperation at a deeper level.
