Pakistan calls for prompt action to protect Palestinians

Pakistan has strongly condemned the violence by Israeli Occupation forces in occupied Palestine territory and called upon the international community for prompt action to protect Palestinians.

“Pakistan views the recent alarming developments in the Occupied Palestinian Territories with serious concern,” the Foreign Office said.

Pakistan condemned acts including harassment of people coming for prayers, arrests of innocent Palestinians and other arbitrary restrictions in violation of fundamental human rights, noting that “These illegal measures have seen an upsurge since the onset of the holy month of Ramadan.”

Pakistan steadfastly supports the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination. “For just and lasting peace, it is imperative to have a two-state solution in accordance with the relevant United Nations and OIC resolutions, with the pre-1967 borders, and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of a viable, independent and contiguous Palestinian State” Pakistan believes.

Israeli police remove barricades after protests

However, Israeli police on Sunday removed barricades from near the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, allowing Palestinians to gather in a plaza outside Jerusalem’s walled Old City – a traditional gathering spot for Palestinians during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The move was taken after days of violent confrontations in which hundreds of Palestinians have been wounded and dozens of others arrested in several days of violence.

Peaceful resolution

Special Representative to Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi recently said that peaceful solution of Palestinian issue was a priority of Pakistan. Resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in accordance with the long-standing desire of the Muslims was key to sustainable peace in the Middle East.
