Pakistan dispatches 17 truckloads of food aid to Afghanistan

Pakistan to assist Afghanistan in the areas of health, education and livelihood as well

The government of Pakistan, with the assistance of Pak-Afghan Cooperation Forum (PACF), on Sunday, donated 17 container trucks loaded with 278 tonnes of necessary food items on humanitarian grounds to Afghanistan.

In a ceremony held at the Torkham border, Pak-Afghan Cooperation Forum chairman Habibullah Khan Khattak accompanied with other officials of the Pakistan government handed over the edible loaded containers to the Taliban leader Maulvi Mubariz Afghani as a goodwill gesture to assist the newly established Taliban government in Afghanistan.

Habibullah Khan, while speaking at the occasion, said, “We aim not only to provide immediate humanitarian assistance in the form of food, medicine and non-food items to the people of Afghanistan, but to help them to stand on their own feet and make their homeland a peaceful, stable and responsible member of the global community.”

Details of the dispatched aid:

According to the PACF chairman the aid being sent to Afghanistan included:

  • 65 tonnes of sugar
  • three tonnes of pulses
  • 190 tonnes of flour
  • 11 tonnes of cooking oil
  • 31 tonnes of rice

He also expressed hope that in the coming days Pakistan will also assist Afghanistan in the areas of health, education and livelihood.

The Consul General of Pakistan at Jalalabad Abidullah and Regional Head Ministry of Industries and Private Sectors Maulvi Mubariz received the edible loaded trucks and thanked the government of Pakistan and Pak Afghan Cooperation Forum (PACF) for helping Afghan people at this critical juncture.

The ambassador shared a press release from the Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul stating that, “Pakistan is at the forefront of countries providing relief assistance to Afghanistan to meet the current challenges. Earlier, Pakistan dispatched four C-130 loads of food and medicines to Kabul, Kandahar, Khost and Mazar-e-Sharif”.

Talking about the previous bulk of aid dispatched from Pakistan, Mr Khattak said that the government of Pakistan with the help of various philanthropists had sent 32 tonnes of flour, six tonnes of cooking oil, and two tonnes of medicine through C-130

Starting from today Pakistan will use land routes to send supplies including blankets and tents which will “help people meet the needs of incoming winter season.”
