Pakistan, Malaysia initiate media and TV collaboration to further promote closer ties

Malaysia also expressed interest in fostering trade ties with Pakistan

Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in the media industry, especially in the film and drama industries.

The understanding was reached at a meeting on Sunday between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain and Malaysian Foreign Minister Saif-ud-Din Abdullah on the sidelines of the OIC summit, being held in Islamabad.

Both sides agreed to exchange media delegations and benefit from expertise in the film and drama industry of the two countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said Pakistan is broadcasting translated dramas of several languages on its national and private channels and wants Malaysia to broadcast Pakistani productions for its people.

Malaysian FO lauds Pakistan’s efforts

The Malaysian Foreign Minister lauded Pakistan’s efforts in organizing the ongoing Organization of Islamic cooperation conference. He said Pakistan is an important member of OIC and its role in helping Muslims around the world, especially Afghan people is commendable.

Pakistan, Turkey, and Malaysia to launch joint TV channel

Separately, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain announced that Pakistan, Turkey, and Malaysia have agreed to establish a joint television channel to boost media cooperation between the three countries.

Speaking to media in Islamabad, he said that point persons for media collaboration have been nominated and a joint media network will be soon developed.

Extremism must be countered in Muslim countries

Chaudhry Fawad further said that it is about time to take steps to counter extremism in Muslim countries, including Pakistan and Malaysia. He also suggested that an OIC platform should include a unit of scholars to provide counsel on religious matters.

The minister further said that the Rehmat-ul-Alamin Authority’s jurisdiction would be increased and a similar authority would be formed under the umbrella of OIC.

Malaysia interested to foster trade ties with Pakistan

Separately, Malaysia’s Charge d’Affaires, High Commission of Malaysia, Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh said his country is interested to further enhancing trade ties with Pakistan considering that Pakistan and Malaysia have good potential to do trade in many items that would help their economies to grow and progress.

During his visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Faisal Ahmad said his country also plans to further expand industrial training in Pakistan including technical and vocational education training, research and development, as well as commercialization and innovation to benefit Pakistan’s economy, according to a press release issued on Thursday.

He also stressed promoting direct trade between the two countries saying that said many Pakistani products reach the Malaysian market via third countries and this increases the cost of products.
