Pakistan President Alvi visits Kuwait, expresses condolences over Al Sabah’s demise

Statement from the President’s office paid a glorious tribute to the deceased leader

President Arif Alvi visited Kuwait to express his condolences on the passing away of Kuwaiti emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, who recently passed away at the age of 91.

He was at the helm of affairs since 2006. Al Sabah also served as the foreign minister for the Gulf State for over four decades in two tenures. Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, his half-brother, is now the new Emir of Kuwait.

The President’s office released a statement before his departure, stating that Pakistan and Kuwait are bound by a close fraternal relationship.

“Under the leadership of the late emir, bilateral cooperation acquired a new level. Late emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah was a sincere and trusted friend of Pakistan,” the statement read.

“He made an invaluable contribution to bringing the two countries and the people closer. His efforts in the bilateral context and for regional peace and stability will be long remembered.”

Pakistan and Kuwait have enjoyed friendly relations over the years. It has also been a major hub for overseas Pakistanis looking for better career opportunities. Currently, there are around 110,000 Pakistanis residing in the gulf state.
