Pakistan, Saudi navies hold joint drill in Arabian Sea

Navies and Air forces of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia showed an impressive display of missile-firing during joint military drill Exercise Naseem Al Bahr-XIII (NAB-XIII) in the northern Arabian Sea on Thursday.

According to a press release issued by the Directorate General Public Relations (Pakistan Navy), the navies and air forces of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia performed an impressive display of firepower and missile firing demonstration during Exercise Naseem Al Bahr-XIII (NAB-XIII).

Commander of Royal Saudi Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Fahad bin Abdullah Al-Ghofaily and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammed Amjad Khan Niazi graced the Exercise with their presence, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General Public Relations (Pakistan Navy). They witnessed live weapons firing by various naval and air units of the two countries, said the press release.

Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) F-15 S/A’s maiden participation in the drill added a distinctive blend to the Joint Maritime Operations conducted during the exercise. Ships of Pakistani and Saudi Naval forces along with RSAF aircraft engaged their respective targets successfully at the live fire demonstrations.

Later both the chiefs reviewed the Joint Fleet Review of PN and RSNF ships at sea along with high-ranking officials from both countries

Exercise Naseem Al Bahr

Exercise Naseem Al Bahr is a biennial operational exercise. Over the last two decades, the exercise has evolved as a manifestation of the strategic relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and a mutual resolve to enhance cooperation in dealing with maritime threats.

The exercise aims to:

  • Enhance interoperability and operational readiness among the armed forces of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to cater for a wide spectrum of naval warfare and maritime security operational purpose.
  • Practical demonstration of the forces’ joint response to conventional threats at sea.
  • Consolidate the existing strong bilateral relations between Pakistan Navy and Royal Saudi Naval Forces.

Both the naval chiefs also had an official meeting at Pakistan Navy Headquarters on Tuesday, before the Exercise in which the dignitaries discussed professional matters and bilateral naval collaboration. Cdr RSNF lauded Pakistan Navy’s efforts for maritime security in the region.
