Two security guards and one policeman embraced martyrdom during the terror attack
Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi was attacked by four militants early in the morning with automatic weapons and hand grenades.
All militants were neutralized by law enforcement agencies. Two security guards and a police sub inspector embraced martyrdom during the attack.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) armed group claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.
According to reports, the miscreants were riding a sedan and tried to enter the stock exchange building through the parking area. The used the automatic weapons indiscriminately and threw hand grenades in an attempt to force their way through.
PSX tweeted that the law enforcement agencies are on the scene and controlling the situation. The stock exchange will later give a detailed statement.
Police authorities also confirmed that all attackers were killed. Seven people were also injured and are currently being treated for injuries. Meanwhile, Rangers said that the clearance operation is underway. Bomb squad was also called on the scene to ensure that there are no explosives set to go off.
PSX Board Chairman Sulaiman S. Mehdi said that the stock exchange continued its trading without a halt of a single minute. He also highly appreciated the response of the police and other law enforcement agencies. He thanked those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep others safe.
“There is no doubt that this was a terrorist attack. I want to thank the security guards who embraced martyrdom for their service. The response of police and security forces was unbelievable. Our personal guards deterred the terrorists until police came in; they were not allowed to enter the building at all,” said Mehdi.
Governor Sindh Imran Ismail condemned the attack and vowed to keep the province safe. He said that those responsible will be given exemplary punishments.
Opposition leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif also condemned the cowardly attack.
