The foreign office emphasized that the rights of Palestinians must be safeguarded

Pakistan’s foreign office believes that the normalization of ties between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel will have far-reaching implications, as per an official press release. The statement emphasized the need to keep the people of Palestine and their rights in view moving forward.

“We have noted the joint statement announcing agreement of UAE and Israel to have full normalization of relations. This is a development with far-reaching implications,” the Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said.

“For a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, Pakistan has consistently supported a two-state solution in accordance with the relevant UN and OIC resolutions as well as international law,” as per the press release. “Pakistan’s approach will be guided by our evaluation of how Palestinians’ rights and aspirations are upheld and how regional peace, security, and stability are preserved.”

Old foes come close

The two countries announced the normalization of ties on Thursday, opening their doors for each other. The two countries plan on setting up diplomatic as well as business ties. The American President Donald Trump expressed his delight on the historic occasion and announced the deal through his twitter account. According to the deal, Israel will suspend its planned annexation of Palestinian lands. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already made his plans clear for annexation of the Jordan Valley and continuation of making settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Strong reactions from Iran, Turkey, Palestine

There have been strong reactions from some of the Muslim countries such as Iran, Turkey, and Palestine. Turkey has threatened to suspend diplomatic relations with the UAE over the matter. Palestinian leadership called the move a betrayal and said it will withdraw its Ambassador from the UAE.

Western countries and pro-west Arab countries have supported the agreement. Israel has had similar deals with some of the other Arab countries in the past as well.
