Pakistan dispatched a C-130 aircraft with much-needed emergency relief supplies for the people of Afghanistan on May 7.

The relief supplies were sent for the victims affected by heavy rains and flooding in 12 provinces of Afghanistan this week.

The relief items include 100 tents, 2 tons of flour, 1 ton of rice, and 450 kg of sugar.

“Pakistan today dispatched first C-130 to Afghanistan containing relief assistance in tents, food items and medicines for the people affected by recent flash floods,” Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Mansoor Ahmad Khan said.

Another plane-load of relief goods would likely be sent to Afghanistan in the coming days.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced assistance for the neighboring country. “Pakistan will continue to stand by Afghan brothers and sisters through thick and thin,” PM Sharif said on Twitter. “International community shouldn’t forget Afghan people in this hour of need.”

Pakistan Foreign Office in its statement said that “Pakistan as a neighboring country has been at the forefront of efforts for provision of humanitarian assistance for the Afghan people and hopes that the international community would also play its active part in providing timely relief and economic assistance to the affected people in Afghanistan.”
