The trophy will remain in the city for a day where it will be put on display for the public
The FIFA World Cup trophy touched down in Pakistan on Saturday as part of its global journey ahead of the World Cup 2018 in Russia.
The trophy arrived Lahore in a special chartered plane along with superstars as part of a journey that sees it travel to 51 countries and 91 cities across six different continents.
FIFA World Cup winner Christian Karembeu accompanied the trophy to Pakistan along with former cricket captain Younis Khan, singers Quratulain Baloch, Momina Mustehsan, actor Maya Ali and other celebrities on a special chartered flight from Thailand.
Karembeu said he aims to promote football in Pakistan during the trophy tour and football fans in Pakistan to never stop dreaming and aiming high.
Meanwhile, legendary former cricketer Younus Khan said he is ‘honoured’ to be part of the delegation bringing the FIFA World Cup trophy to Pakistan on its world tour.
The current trophy was introduced more than four decades back in 1974, and is made of 18 carat gold with a malachite base.
The trophy tour began from London, England on 22nd January and in Pakistan, the trophy welcomed by many football enthusiasts along with famous celebrities and sports stars.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour kicked off in September 2017 in Russia. During its journey across six continents, the trophy will travel 126,000 kilometres in the months leading up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The world trophy tour will end on 30th April in Tokyo, Japan. World Cup 2018 will kick off from 14th June in Russia and Germany will defend its title which was won four years back in Brazil after a 1-0 win over Argentina.
