Pakistan end Commonwealth Wrestling with 1 silver, 10 bronze

Pakistan’s ace wrestler Muhammad Inam grabbed one silver medal in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship. Muhammad Inam owned silver medal after finishing second in his weight group at the completion of his matches in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Pakistani Squad includes nine wrestlers in the competitions which will be contested in both freestyle and Greco-Roman style.

The members are Mohammad Bilal (57kg), his brother Abdul Wahab (61kg), Mudassir Hussain (65kg), rookie Ghulam Ghaus (70kg), Abdul Rehman (74kg), Umair Ahmed (86kg), seasoned Mohammad Inam (92kg), Tayyab Raza (97kg) and Ahmed Shehzad Butt (125kg).

Silver medal winner Muhammad Inam had to be content with a silver medal in 92-kilogramme competitions when he defeated Arjudeem Airudeen 6-0 and earlier in 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Inam lost to Somveer of India, who won gold. There were only three players in this category.

Pakistan Wrestling Federation’s (PWF) secretary Arshad Sattar said Inam was unfortunate not to grab gold. He had a 3-0 edge in his first fight but failed to maintain it that damaged his cause.

One other Pakistani Muhammad Bilal got the bronze in 57kg weight category, after downing Canada’s Darthe Capellan with a score of 9-4 to secure the medal.

Rookie Ghulam Ghous also won with a bronze in the 70kg slots when he defeated James Charlie of England 10-0.

In the 86kg weight category, Pakistan’s Umair Ahmed overpowered South Africa’s Hein Jackobus 11-0 in bronze medal bout.

Pakistan’s fourth bronze medal came in 97kg weight category, won by Tayyab Raza. Tayyab defeated Samuel Stephen Belkin of New Zealand 10-0 to secure the medal for his country.
