Pakistan’s female cricketer Sana Mir listed among ‘Asia 21 Young Leader’

Pakistan’s female cricketer and captain of national team Sana Mir has been named among “Asia 21 Young Leaders” for challenging attitudes about women’s participation in Pakistan’s male-dominated society.

Sana Mir was selected by Asia Society among thirty remarkable professionals from 21 different countries of Asia, representing the next generation of leaders in government, business, arts, media, and the nonprofit sector.

Asia Society – a non-profit organization promoting mutual understanding of Asia in a global context and strengthening partnerships among peoples, leaders and institutions across the fields of arts, business, culture, education, and policy.

Sana Mir named for the 2017 class of Asia 21, Asia-Pacific’s foremost network of young leaders, with Asia Society noting that the cricket star had challenged attitudes about women’s participation in Pakistan sport.

“To me, leadership is service,” Mir said. “It not only empowers individuals to be the change they wish to see, but also gives them a unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of others. I believe an able leader is one who can nurture and give others the confidence to come into their own. A leader is one who has the will and capacity to give back to society selflessly.”

According press release of Asia Society, it said that Sana will travel to Melbourne, Australia in December for the Asia 21 annual summit, where she will meet members of the 2017 class from 20 other countries.

Other Pakistanis who are a part of Asia 21 alumni include Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Qasim Aslam (Founder of The History Project), Madiha Gul (Creative Director Mishermayl Productions), Adnan Malik (filmmaker) and Muhammad Sabir (Founder of Slumabad).

Asia 21, now in its 12th year, has grown into a network of more than 800 young leaders from 40 nations, working together to shape a brighter future for the Asia-Pacific region.
