This announcement was made by Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) at the ceremony of World Space Week 2017.

A graceful opening ceremony was held At SUPARCO headquarters, National Center for Remote Sensing & Geo Informatics (NCRG) where member range and instrumentation Ayaz Aziz was the chief Guest.

The World Space Week is annual celebrations being held simultaneously from October 4-10 in 16 different cities of Pakistan. It aims to celebrate science and technology and its contribution to the betterment of the human condition.

Member R&I, Ayaz Aziz in his speech said that the country had also sent PakSat-1R into space in 2011. After the success of PakSat-1R, Pakistan will now be launching its first optical remote sensing satellite in March 2018, he added.

Ayaz Aziz added that young people, especially students has to understand our universe and how much it has to offer and encourages them to seek knowledge, education and careers in the fields of space, science and technology.

After successful launching of Badr satellite programme which contained the experimental Low Earth Observational satellites in the 1990s and early 2000s, SUPARCO launched the work on the high resolution Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSSS) to meet the national and international user requirements in the field of satellite imagery.

SUPARCO has contributed to natural resource management and environment modeling through glacier monitoring, land cover classification of Pakistan; land information system, national environment information management system.

Other participants in the ceremony said that SUPARCO is proudly associated with World Space Week since 2005 as the national coordinator of World Space Week Association (WSWA) in Pakistan.

It is our privilege to be among 86 countries throughout the world that celebrates and contributes in the promotion of space science and technology every year, he added.
