Poetess Fahmida Riaz awarded Pakistan’s highest literary award

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) has announced Kamal-e-Fun Award for the year 2014. Kamal-e-Fun Award – the highest literary award in the field of literature – has been awarded to country’s prominent poetess Fahmida Riaz.

Fahmida Raiz is a writer, human rights activist and the author of more than 15 books on fiction and poetry. Pathar Ke Zaban, Dodavari, Karachi, Dhoop and Adhoora Aadmi are some of her famous books. Her work has been translated into French, German and Russian Languages.

Kamal-e-Fun Award is Pakistan’s highest literary award in the field of literature for recognition of lifetime achievement in creative and research work. The amount of this award is Rs. 500000/-

The panel of judges comprised if well known writers and scholars Mr. Masood Ashar, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Kamran, Dr. Tauseef Tabassum, Ahmad Saleem, Dr. Shah Muhammad Marri, Dr. Salma Shaheen, Mubin Mirza, Musarat Kalanchvi,  Arif Zia, Hasam Hur and Muhammad Ishaq Samejo. The esteemed authors gathered here on Tuesday at the office of Pakistan Academy of Letters, Islamabad. Masood Ashar presided over the meeting.

Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio, Chairman, PAL has also announced the National Literary Award for the year 2014, given on the best literary books written during the year in Urdu and other Pakistani languages in his Press Conference.

For Urdu Poetry, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal Award is given to  Imdad Hussaini on his book “Dhoop Kiran”. In Urdu Prose Baba-e-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq Award is given to Tahira Iqbal on her book “Zameen Rang” and Dr. Shakeel Pitafi on his book “Pakistan Mein Ghalib Shanasi”.

In Punjabi language Syed Waris Shah Award has been awarded to Zahid Hasan on his book “Qisa-e-Aashiqan” while in Sindhi language Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Award has been given to Taj Baloch on his book “Jadeed Adab Jo Tajzio”.

The Pushto language Khushhal Khan Khattak Award has been awarded to Dr. Abdul Qudus Asim on his book “Da Zama Kitab De” while in Balochi language Mast Tawakli Award has been given to Ghafoor Shad on his book “Balochi Classical Sahiree”.

In Seraiki language Khwaja Ghulam Fareed Award was awarded to Habib Mohana on his book “Setlan De Dagh” while in Brahui language Taj Muhammad Tajal Award has been given to Zauq Brahui on his book “Marrdata Daghare Jehlawan”.

In Hindko language Saeen Ahmad Ali Award is given to  Hasam Hur on his book “Qisa Khwani Kahenta Kuhar”and  in Translation Muhamamd Hasan Askari Award is given to Dr. Amjad Ali Bhatti on his book “Punjab Lok Reet”.

 The Award money Rs. 100000/- will be given to each of Award winner for the National Literary Award 2014.
