Ramadan 2023: Saudi Arabia hosts longest-ever Iftar table in Indonesia

The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance hosted Indonesia’s longest-ever iftar table in Padang, the capital of West Sumatra province, on Monday, which was attended by over 8,000 Indonesians from diverse backgrounds.

The event was conducted as part of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Iftar Program, which aims to host iftar banquets in cities and provinces throughout Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country.

According to official Indonesian statistics, the iftar table extended over a length of 1,200 meters.

The Religious Attaché at the Saudi Embassy in Jakarta, Ahmed bin Isa Al-Hazmi, and West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah attended the event, along with several political and Islamic figures and heads of universities and Islamic associations in the province.

Ansharullah expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia’s leadership for the event, and stated that the Indonesian government will seek to have this event recorded in the Guinness World Records as the longest-ever iftar table in the country’s history. The table was arranged in coordination with approximately 40 restaurants and 400 workers.

Ansharullah also expressed hope that such initiatives would strengthen the relationship between the governments and peoples of both countries and promote the bonds of brotherhood among Muslims and other communities.
