Rescue and relief efforts continue in flood-affected areas of Gwadar

Coastal areas of Balochistan province hit by heavy rainfall and floods

Pakistan security forces including the Army, Navy, and Levies with the help of District administration and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) are conducting rescue and relief operations in the flood-ravaged areas of Gwadar District where 2,478 families have been affected and 22 villages cut off after heavy rains, according to a press release issued by the ISPR.

The recent heavy rainfall of 3rd and 4th January in Balochistan caused urban flooding in low lying areas of Gwadar old town where Army troops immediately aided civil administration in relief and rescue efforts including shifting of stranded tourists and their vehicles along with dewatering of various areas and, said ISPR in a statement which further added that the rescue operations are being carried out in isolated villages of Kulanch, Sardasht and Sunstar valleys.

Moreover, rescue efforts for locals in terms of food and shelter were provided along with Coastal Highway, Pasni, Surbandar, Nigore, and Jiwani areas.

Pakistan Coast Guards supported locals at Jiwani, Pishukan, and Gwadar city in removing water from houses and streets and shifting fishermen’s boats to safer locations.

Furthermore, Pakistan Air Force is also carrying out relief operations in the flooded district on the order of the federal government. The supplies including tents, food, and medicines weighed more than 39,860 pounds and were dropped by the plane in villages where access via land route was not possible.

PAF’s C-130 cargo aircraft dropped goods in the flood-hit areas of Gwadar after taking off from Pasni Airport on Thursday, said a PR released by PAF.

The floods also caused many small dams across Gawadar to collapse, affecting 41 villages and more than 10,000 people in Kulanch and 1,786 households.

Relief and Rescue included:

  • Distribution of food among the locals.
  • Distribution of 2,500 liters of drinking water in Gawadar
  • Pumping out of water from houses and streets
  • Provision of medicines and tents
  • Rescue of tourists and their belongings
