Saudi forces prepare for joint military drill with Pakistani Army

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Special Security Forces are preparing to carry out a joint military drill – Shehab 2 – with the Pakistan Army Services Group in the city of Riyadh soon.

According to official Saudi Press Agency, the Commander of the Forces, Lieutenant General Mufleh bin Salim Al-Otaibi said that the Military Drill aims to exchange military expertise in fighting against terrorism and upgrading the level of performance, efficiency and readiness of military forces from the two brotherly countries.

The statement comes a day after the 41-nation Islamic Military Alliance against Terrorism (IMAT) announced it will hold its first meeting of defence ministers from member countries in the Saudi capital next week.

All the defense ministers of this Saudi-led anti-terrorism alliance of Muslim countries will hold talks in Riyadh on 26 November 2017.

The main focus of this meeting of the Islamic Military Alliance is to Fight Terrorism aims at “strengthening cooperation and integration” among the member countries.

The 41-member block includes all Sunni nations and was launched by Saudi Arabia in late 2015 with an aim to counter terrorism. It includes countries like Turkey, Malaysia and Egypt and other Muslims countries to combat Daesh and other terror groups.

Pakistani military personnel frequently serve in Saudi Arabia and its last army chief, General Raheel Sharif, now heads a 41-nation Islamic army coalition based out of Riyadh.

According to sources, the bilateral relationship has grown further since Pakistan joined the Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism (IMAFT).

According to a survey, Pakistanis hold the most favorable perception of the Kingdom in the world, with 95 percent of the respondents viewing Saudi Arabia favorably and Pakistan has maintained a unique position and works closely with the Kingdom and other member states of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as well as the world at large.
