Pakistan has awarded Roy by ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ in 2005 in honour of undisputed efforts humanity
United Nations office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has appointed Pakistan’s renowned musician and singer Shehzad Roy as its National Good will ambassador.
Shehzad Roy appointment is aimed at increasing visibility and assistance in mobilizing support for drug demand reduction, prevention and treatment.
Pakistani veteran star and activist Shehzad Roy is founder and President of Zindagi Trust strive government to improve education policy.
In honour of undisputed efforts in the public service and for humanity Roy has been awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2005. He was also held into high esteem with the ‘Sitara-e-Eisaar’ in 2006 for his NGO’s commitment in the rehabilitation of the affectees of the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.
UNODC Executive Director, Yury Fedotov, took the stage to congratulate the singer and social worker by saying: “Throughout his career as a singer, social worker and a humanitarian, Mr. Roy has shown and unwavering commitment to tackling illicit drugs.”
He further added, “His position as one of Pakistan’s most famous singers, his enduring popularity with young people, and his energy and undoubted talent, will help UNODC publicize the dangers of drug abuse.”
In a tweet the singer expressed his gratitude to UNODC and said, “I have been following UNODC’s work even before joining them as a Goodwill Ambassador . Their work is commendable in the fields of criminal justice, drug demand reduction and HIV/AIDS prevention. These things are close to my heart especially when children are concerned, and I will give my all to my new role as National Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan.” Shehzad said.
