Child dressed in a pilot suit specially-made for him surprises everyone on Etihad flight
A 6-year-old child’s dream came true as he got to be a pilot for a day on a flight heading from Morocco to Abu Dhabi.
The kid earned this honour after a video of him explaining an aircraft’s operating systems to Etihad Airways pilots went viral.
Etihad Airways invited Adam Mohammed Amer, of Egyptian-Moroccan origin, to fly his favourite Airbus A380 in the airline’s training academy, in a gesture to make his dreams of becoming a captain come true.
The young man took flight charge from Morocco to Abu Dhabi by giving detailed procedural accounts of aircraft operating systems and demonstrating a deep understanding of emergency procedures.
Adam is only six years old but already knows so much about flying planes. He had first caught a flight attendant’s attention through the way he spoke about the aircraft’s flaps, safety measures and emergency exit operations.
The crew decided to create the opportunity of a lifetime for Adam by allowing him into the cockpit when the plane landed.
The reward for his devotion to aviation was an invite to the Etihad Airways Training Centre where he was handed a specially made uniform and underwent pilot training – including sessions in the Airbus A380 simulator.
The child demonstrated how much he knew about planes by giving detailed procedural accounts of aicraft operating systems and expressing a deep understanding of emergency procedures.
The airline posted a video of the child’s experience, showing his excitement while flying the Airbus A380. The video went viral after he impressed everyone with his brilliant and impressive aviation knowledge.
Captain Majed Al Marzouqi Etihad Airways Vice President Flight Operations said that “Seeing Adam’s enthusiasm reminds me of my own as a young boy, with dreams of becoming a pilot. It really is a wonderful opportunity for us to engage with the children of our community.”
He further added that Adam shows incredible intellect and knowledge, having learned complex operational procedures from YouTube videos. “I hope he has enjoyed his day in the life of a pilot and that it encourages him to pursue his passion when he is older.”
