200 surgical cases been performed through robotic surgery by the SIUT and Civil Hospital
A three-day international conference on robotic surgery in the field of urology began at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).
This three-day international conference will be graced with several surgeons and experts from the country and abroad turned out in a good number.
A team of two specialized surgeons from the UK and Netherlands along with the team of SIUT urologists are taking part in live operating sessions transmitted through the real-time video link at the conference.
The provincial health secretary was among the audience who witnessed the live surgery session on the opening day of the conference.
Director SIUT Prof Adib Rizvi on the inauguration of ceremony highlighted the merits of minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery and declared it as leading-edge technology, which has opened new avenues of providing relief and comfort to surgical patients.
The robotic machine had been lying non-functional for the past couple of years, but recently the Sindh government and the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) shared funds for its repair and made it functional.
This surgery machine is a sophisticated robotic platform designed to expand the surgeon’s capabilities and offer a modern minimally invasive option for major surgeries.
The Doctors performed 200 surgeries by using a robotic surgery machine at the OT Complex of the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) in the last six months including cases of urological disorders at SIUT.
The visiting surgeons who were there to take part in the conference included Prof M. Shamim Khan from Kings College London, Prof Matin Sheriff from Medway Maritime Hospital Kent, Dr Faiz Mumtaz from Royal Free Hospital London, Dr Tariq Tasaddaq from Bedford Hospital, and Dr Axel Bex from the Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam.
The conference was divided into various sessions comprising workshops, live robotic surgeries, panel discussions and training sessions.
