The current strains of the virus have been found to be deadlier than those last year

The World Health Organization issued a grave warning that the second year of Covid-19 will likely be “far more deadly,” with Japan extended a state of emergency amid growing calls for the Olympics to be scrapped.

“We’re on track for the second year of this pandemic to be far more deadly than the first,” said WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Tokyo and other cities such as Hiroshima, Okayama and northern Hokkaido, will be under lockdown for the rest of the May with just which 10 weeks left in the Olympics. A petition to cancel the games amid the virus has garnered 350,000 signatures. Many international players have also opposed to the Olympics to be held this year.

India gets Russian vaccine

India has started receiving the Russian vaccine Sputnik V as the country undergoes an extreme second wave of coronavirus pandemic. Every day, India is reporting over 300,000 new cases with over 4,000 people losing their lives. Overall, more than 260,000 people have died in India. The Indian variant is deadlier than others found in different countries. The arrival of the vaccine should help the common man at least avoiding the severity of coronavirus. Its eventual efficacy, however, will depend on whether or not it can be effective against the Indian variant.
