The candidates exchanged insults along with arguments in the first debate before the elections
U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic Presidential Candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden exchanged sharp verbal jabs at each other in the first Presidential debate. Both of the debaters called names and even resorted to personal insults apart from discussing different matters of importance.
Moderator Chris Wallace looked out of depth as the two candidates went for it. Trump kept on interrupting Biden, who called him a “clown,” a “racist,” and “Putin’s puppy” and said that “You’re the worst president America has ever had.” Trump retorted by calling Biden not a smart person.
Coronavirus response
Biden also took a dig at the slow response Trump administration showed to the novel coronavirus and the severe impact it had on the country. “He panicked or he looked at the stock market,” Biden said of Trump. “A lot of people died and a lot more are going to die unless he gets a lot smarter, a lot quicker,” he added.
Trump fired back at Biden by giving the response a thumbs up and said that Biden would have been able to do nothing close to it. “But I tell you, Joe, you could never have done the job we’ve done. You don’t have it in your blood,” he said.
Issues of Taxes
Donald Trump continues to refuse to show his tax returns, even after media reports suggest that he paid $750 each in 2016 and 2017 and did not pay any taxes in ten of the fifteen previous years. Trump called it fake news and said he paid millions of dollars in taxes. Meanwhile, Joe Biden revealed his tax returns before the start of the debate.
Conceding the elections
President Donald Trump has made it amply clear that he will not concede defeat if he feels that the elections were not fair. He is already making a lot of noise about unfounded voter fraud claims. He has made efforts to block mail-in votes as well. This could complicate the situation if he loses the elections, especially in a close fight.
