Turkish and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a memorandum of understanding on the peaceful use of space and space science, technologies and applications.

The agreement was signed by Türkiye’s space agency (TUA) and the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA) in a ceremony held in Istanbul on July 13 where delegations from both countries gathered for an investment workshop.

A high-ranking UAE delegation, led by Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, concluded a two-day visit to Türkiye from July 13-14.

“Within the scope of the memorandum of understanding, the two countries will share information and experience in the field of space exploration and technologies. Joint research and development work will be launched on suborbital flights, launch, rocket, and imaging satellite systems,” TUA said in a statement.

The agencies will also carry out joint space studies on urban and regional planning and disaster management.

Chairwoman of the UAE Space Agency Sarah Al Amiri said that UAE-Turkish relations are witnessing a transformation in vital sectors including advanced technology and space.

“The signing of the MoU between the UAE Space Agency and the Turkish Space Agency that includes space research and technology and joint studies on suborbital flights and satellite systems lies at the heart of the UAE’s efforts to build bridges for space exploration. Ultimately, we believe these partnerships will provide a mutual economic and social positive impact,” she added. She also wished Turkey success in its lunar mission next year.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber invited Turkish companies to invest in the UAE’s industrial sector and benefit from industrial investment opportunities in petrochemicals, metals, pharma, medical equipment, electrical machinery, agri-tech, defence and space.
