Erdogan calls on international community to give Israel ‘strong and deterrent’ lesson

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the world community should discuss the “idea of sending an international protection force to the region in order to protect Palestinian civilians”.

The comment was made during a phone call between Turkish President Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

The Turkish president welcomed the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement on UN parameters and a two-state solution in Palestine and said that Ankara and Moscow share the same stance regarding the developments in Jerusalem.

Erdogan called on the international community to give Israel a “strong and deterrent” lesson as he voiced Turkey’s concerns against the Israeli attacks on Jerusalem, Gaza, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Palestinians in the strongest words.

Erdogan also urged the UN Security Council to give a determined and clear message to Israel to halt its attacks on Palestinians. Erdogan said he believed Turkey and Russia would cooperate on the issue of Palestine in the UN.

At least 43 Palestinians have been killed and 296 others injured in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip amid growing tensions across the Palestinian territories after Israeli police stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied East Jerusalem and assaulted worshippers. Five Israelis have also been killed in rocket fires from Palestine.
