Emmy nomination for two Pakistani film makers is a proud moment for all

Pakistan film makers and showbiz industry have another pride moment as two of Pakistani films one by Sharmeen Chinoy and second by Muhammad Ali Naqvi has been nominated for the 38th annual news and documentary Emmy Awards.

Pakistani documentaries “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness and Among the Believers” have found their way to the much celebrated and high-profile Emmy Awards and will be presented on Oct 5th in New York.

Pakistani film makers Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Muhammad Ali Naqvi must be really proud of themselves.

Sharmeen Chinoy’s film, ‘A Girl in the River’ has highlighting honour killings in the society and has bagged three nominations in the categories Best Documentary, Outstanding Short Documentary and Oustanding Music and Sound. The film is produced by Tina Brown and Sheila Nevins in collaboration with HBO Documentary Films.

The second Pakistani documentary nominated for the prestigious Emmy, won by some of the biggest names in global cinema, is helmed by Muhammad Ali Naqvi and is as titled ‘Among the Believers’.

The documentary ‘Among the Believers’ has been banned in Pakistan but has bagged nomination in the category of Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary.

Among the Believers is a presentation of the Center for Asian American Media with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. www.caamedia.org and supported by the Ford Foundation.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, a Pakistani filmmaker is a two-time Oscar winner and made Pakistani proud for being Pakistan’s first ever Oscar winner.

Chinoy’s previous documentary has won an Emmy for her documentary ‘Children of Taliban’ and two for ‘Saving Face’.

Naqvi’s project ‘Among the Believers’ has won two awards at Doc Edge. Doc Edge is an international film festival which is held in New Zealand.
