Muhammad Karim, Syed Haman to represent Pakistan in Winter Olympics

Two Pakistani skiers Muhammad Karim and Syed Haman will represent the country for the first time in the Winter Olympics 2018 to be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Both Mohammad Karim and Syed Haman Shah belong to Naltar valley of Gilgit Baltistan has qualified for the Winter Olympics 2018, to be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The Winter Olympics will be held in Pyeong ski city of South Korea in March and more than 40 countries are participating in the winter Olympics in various competitions.

Secretary-General of the Ski Federation of Pakistan has termed this development as a historical moment for Pakistan, as this is the first time that Pakistani skiers have been qualified for three slots in the winter Olympics.

According to ski federation, Karim will participate in Slalom and Giant Slalom categories whereas Syed Haman will be competing in the cross country, however, this time Karim is lucky enough to qualify for two categories, Slalom and Giant Slalom and Haman is the nephew of Olympians Karim and Abbas.

Earlier Karim previously also represented Pakistan in Sochi Winter Olympics in s2014 in slalom and giant slalom categories whereas Haman will show his muscles in cross country.

Haman has been representing Pakistan Army since 2009 and has also gone through extensive training and coaching with the help PAF and SFP in Turkey and the Czech Republic and hopes to excel in the Games next month.

According to organizers of Pyeongchang in Winter Games, a total of 2,925 athletes from 92 countries are set to compete in this year.

This is the first time that the Winter Games will be held in South Korea, but Seoul was once the host city for the Summer Games. It will also be the host of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympics in the following March with many of the venues for the Games being used for the Paralympics.
