Uber all set to launch in Pakistan

Must Read

Uber – world’s popular taxi-hailing smartphone app – is all set to bring its services for Pakistanis.

As Uber’s job listings page suggests that the company is looking to fill some vacancies for a General Manager, Marketing Manager, and Operations and Logistics Manager in Lahore, country’s second-largest city.

“We can confirm we are currently recruiting for a team in Lahore, and are very excited about launching in Pakistan as we see huge potential in the way we can help people move around their city safely and reliably,” said Shaden Abdellatif, communications manager for Uber’s Middle East and Africa operations.

“We are also excited about the opportunity for economic empowerment we can bring to the drivers we partner with,” Abdellatif was quoted by the website ValueWalk.

According to TechinAsia, Pakistan’s 200 million is a market largely untapped when it comes to taxi apps. There have been some efforts in the past, such as EasyTaxi as well as homegrown startups such as Savaaree, but they’ve largely failed to make enough of a dent. However, with explosive growth of high-speed internet and Uber’s demonstrated willingness to tweak its model for accepting cash payments, there seems to be no reason why a concerted effort won’t work in Pakistan.
