UNGA President-Elect discusses the plight of Kashmiris with Islamabad

Volkan Bozkir also praised Pakistan’s response to the novel coronavirus

Prime Minister Imran Khan met the United Nations General Assembly President-elect Volkan Bozkir in Islamabad. Bozkir, who will spend two days in the federal capital, was invited by the government of Pakistan. The premier urged the president-elect, to look into the grave situation in Kashmir and help the people of the occupied region.

“The prime minister highlighted the dire rights and humanitarian situation in occupied Kashmir since August 5, 2019, as well as the ongoing gross and systematic violations of human rights and attempts to change the demographic structure of the occupied territory.”

He also met the foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi ad the two discussed the human rights violations in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir being carried out by the Indian occupation forces

Qureshi emphasized on “the effective role of the UNGA to end human rights violations in occupied Kashmir”, Radio Pakistan reported. The foreign minister also apprised Bozkir on the extra judicial killings being carried out in Indian Occupied Kashmir, which has become a matter of routine for the last many years.  

Effective COVID-19 control in Pakistan

Volkan Bozkir, who is a Turkish diplomat, praised Pakistan’s response to the coronavirus and highlighted Pakistan’s policies as a good example for other countries to follow.

“Pakistan has been a good example for the world with its pandemic-related policies. The figures show that Pakistan has done better than other countries in the world and I am happy to observe it with my own eyes,” Bozkir said. “I think the pandemic proved once again that common problems require common responses. In our collective response to the pandemic we must focus on the special needs of the most vulnerable.”

The UNGA president-elect also planted a sapling in the foreign office gardens during his visit.
