UNIDO awarded five Pakistani innovators for developing clean technologies

The ‘Modulus Tech’ won the first prize, while runner-up prize was given to the team “Biotech”

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under its Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) granted 5 awards to most promising Pakistani innovators in the field of clean technologies.

A graceful awards distribution ceremony was held in the capital city Islamabad to appreciate the contributions of the most promising Pakistani innovators.

GCIP is a global programme, aimed at supporting and converting the innovations in the field of clean technologies into successful businesses. The innovations focused on the five categories of renewable energy, energy efficiency, water efficiency, waste to energy and green buildings.

GCI Programme granted five awards under different categories this year, where the team of ‘Modulus Tech’ declared the winners of the first prize, who innovated a new design of low cost, energy efficient houses.

The second prize for the second position goes to ‘Biotech’, who had made a dual function solar system for the rural area which can run water pumps and flour mills.

An award for the most promising women-lead business was presented to a team of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to “Aerosync” who came up with an innovative solar power cart for roadside street vendors.

From 2017 two new prizes were introduced under the “Industry Challenge Award” category so in this regard the first prize was solution for steel industry which was given to team Bitsym Bitpredict for industrial process fault detection information system, the second such prize was given to Crean who has technology for utilizing and regenerating the old batteries.

While speaking at the award ceremony, Syed Abu Ahmed Akif Federal Secretary for Climate reiterated the importance of clean technology innovations in mitigating the harmful effects caused by climate change.

Secretary for Climate ensured that his Ministry’s continued support to this program and appreciated the work of UNIDO, GEF and its local partners in organizing the GCIP, especially the annual competition, as it fosters green entrepreneurship and supports marketable solutions that address the most pressing global environmental challenges.
