Unmanned Systems Conference 2022 kicks off in UAE

The fifth edition of the Unmanned Systems Conference 2022, accompanying the UMEX and Simtex exhibitions, started in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, under the theme of “Autonomous Systems Without Borders: A Huge Breakthrough and Promising Prospects”.

The conference is being held in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The event is being organized by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), in cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Defense.

Key themes of conference:

The conference included four seminars featuring 22 high-level speakers from across the world, including ministers, leaders, and innovators, who discussed several topics and issues related to the unmanned systems sector.

The seminars focused on four main themes, including:

  • Understanding the Changing Unmanned Landscape
  • Facilitating Trust and Understanding: Human-Machine Teaming and Decision-Making in the Unmanned Age
  • Optimizing Innovation: Overcoming Adoption and Integration Challenges, and
  • Unmanned Systems and the 4IR: How Technology is Shaping Future Capabilities

The event attracted a group of intellectual leaders, top-ranked officials, and academic researchers from around the globe. More than 2,000 experts and specialists participated in the conference, both in person and virtually.

The UAE Minister of State for Defense Affairs Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi in his opening speech said that unmanned systems and drones comprise a prominent title for the real and unprecedented technological revolution in the UAE.

“The organization of the strategic conference, despite global challenges, highlights the capabilities and capabilities of the UAE, as it highlights its pivotal role in enhancing the security and stability of the region, and its efforts to move forward in strengthening its advanced technological system, to develop deterrence power, and build an industrial sector. Security and defense contribute to achieving reassurance and peace,” he added.

Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Omar Sultan Al Olama in the opening session said: “When looking at unmanned systems, there are many reasons on which leaders and decision-makers may build their orientations in using, and working with them. On developing and disseminating its various technologies, it contributes to creating many opportunities to protect civilians in wars.”
