Wasim to join PSL sixth team Multan Sultans as the team’s director

Former Pakistan pacers Wasim Akram has left Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United to join the newly formed PSL sixth franchise Multan Sultans.

The legendary fast bowler was representing the Islamabad United as a mentor in first two editions of Pakistan Super League and now likely join the newly formed PSL sixth team Multan Sultans as the team’s director, for the upcoming third edition.

Akram’s manager Arsalan Shah, while talking to the media, confirmed that Wasim Akram has left United after two successful seasons.

“We have left Islamabad United and are officially signing with another franchise this week,” Arsalan Shah said.

“We have been in talks with Multan for some time and also plan on holding discussions with other franchises,” said Arsalan. “A decision will be made this week.”

Islamabad United also confirmed Wasim Akram’s departure in a tweet, Islamabad United’s official account tweeted.

“We bid farewell to Wasim, thank him for the first 2 seasons and wish him best for Multan. Watch out for more news on #ISLU’s PSL3 strategy”.

Multan Sultans is the sixth team in HBL Pakistan Super League and will be seen playing their first edition of PSLT20 in 2018.

Earlier it was reported, that Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is likely to take captaincy of Multan Sultans. While Australian player Michael Clarke is a strong candidate for coaching.

Akram played a crucial role in United’s first season triumph and also earned praise from captain Misbahul Haq for the way he managed things in the aftermath of the infamous spot-fixing scandal in the second edition of the T20 league.

Akram played for Pakistan from 1985-2003 and formed part of the famed two Ws combination with Waqar Younis. The crowning glory of Akram’s achievements was the finish on the podium of the 1992 World Cup under the leadership of Imran Khan.
