WhatsApp users will be able to keep their chats private
WhatsApp is implementing a new two-step verification process to boost message security for users. The optional security feature significantly increases the hurdles that a third-party would have to get over to break into a user’s account.
The feature has now been made integral across all platforms, which includes the iPhone, Android and Windows versions. Firstly, it was been tested on only the beta version of the android app.
The measure can protect users account from unauthorized access, as it provides an additional layer of security and users will be able to keep their chats private.
WhatsApp is the world’s largest messaging platform with over 1.2 billion active users. Last year in April, the popular messaging platform introduced full end-to-end encryption including group chats, making sure that all messages are accessible only by the sender and recipient.
How to enable two-step verification
To enable two-step verification users just open WhatsApp > Settings > Account. Locate Two-step verification and select ‘Enable’. Once enabled, any attempt to verify your phone number on WhatsApp will require the six digit security passcode.
Whatsapp users will also be asked to enter their security code once every seven days if users forget their security code, they can register an email address with WhatsApp and use it to turn off two-step verification.
Users who do not register an email address with WhatsApp will be able to log back into the service if they forget their two-step passcode, but only after seven days of last using WhatsApp.
After seven days, user’s number will be permitted to re-verify on WhatsApp without their passcode, but a user will lose all pending messages upon reverifying – they will be deleted. If your number is re-verified on WhatsApp after 30 days of last using WhatsApp, and without your passcode, your account will be deleted and a new one will be created upon successfully re-verifying.
