Pakistan wins first Gold Medal at Commonwealth Games 2018

Pakistani wrestler Muhammad Inam won the first gold medal this year for the country at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Men’s Freestyle 86 kg wrestling competition on Saturday.

Pakistan has so far bagged five medals in the Games being held at Australia’s Gold Coast. Earlier in the day, the Lahore born Tayab Raza picked bronze in Men’s Freestyle 125 kg wrestling.

The 29 years old Butt, hailing from from Gujranwala outclassed his opponent Nigeria’s Melvin Bibo for the gold medal through Victory by Points – without any points scored by the opponent. He won the match 6-0 without allowing his opponent to even earn a single point.

This is not the first time he won the gold medal–Inam also bagged a gold medal at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010. After winning the match, he did a lap of honour with the Pakistan flag draped around him.
