The technology will help the existing 4G clients and will help in initiation of the 5G services

Zong successfully launched Pakistan’s first commercial Multi-access Edge Computing trial in collaboration with ZTE Corporation. The major development paves the way for conducting more 5G trials in Pakistan while preparing Zong to benefit from the launch of future technologies.

MEC is one of the mainstream components of 5G technology key for building a smart mobile pipeline and Edge ecosystem with different vertical markets. It enhances the user experience and reduces latency in the network. Zong carried out the first official 5G tests in Pakistan in August 2019.

The MEC solution can also be deployed and used on the existing 4G network to improve user experience and can initiate smooth evolution to the coming 5G era.

Zong’s official spokesperson said that test was a success. “Together with ZTE Corporation, we have successfully launched the MEC commercial trial today and have become the pioneers of 5G MEC solution on the current 4G network,” he said.

“At Zong, we stay focused on technology leadership in the Pakistani market and have incessantly explored ways to benefit from 5G technologies on existing 4G networks. We remain committed in our resolve to provide our customers with state-of-the-art digital communication experience,” the spokesperson added.

The solution showed a significant improvement in download speeds. The MEC network will add more value to the 4G customers in Pakistan. It will also serve as a precursor to the 5G technology which will be a reality in not too distant future.
