Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram back online after massive worldwide outage

Facebook and its Instagram and WhatsApp platforms are back online after a massive global outage plunged the services, affecting the small businesses and creators who rely on these services for their income.

Facebook blamed a “faulty configuration change” for a nearly six-hour outage on Monday that prevented the company’s 3.5 billion users from accessing its social media and messaging services.

Facebook said that there is “no evidence that user data was compromised as a result” of the outage.

“To all the people and businesses around the world who depend on us, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused by today’s outage across our platforms,” Facebook said in an explanation on Monday.

“Our services are now back online and we’re actively working to fully return them to regular operations,” Facebook said, adding that the company has “no evidence that user data was compromised as a result of this downtime.”

This is the worst outage for Facebook since 2019 when the site was offline for more than 24 hours.
