Ghazi University to offer smartphones to students, faculty

Ghazi University students, faculty to receive smartphones with study curriculum and eBooks

DERA GHAZI KHAN – Staff and students in many worldwide colleges and universities now rely on smartphones and tablets as technology is helping to improve ways of working and learning.

A Pakistani university has also taken a smart move by offering students smartphones.

Ghazi University, based in Dera Ghazi Khan, has announced plans to give students and faculty smartphones to aid them in their studies and teaching.

In a welcome party on Saturday, Professor Muhammad Khalique Ahmed, the newly-appointed Vice Chancellor of Ghazi University, unveiled the university’s plans to give smartphones to the students as well as the faculty.

He said, ‘the university was planning to give iPhones with curriculum and books apps to students to convert the campuses into cyber campuses and the students and faculty would be in contact round the clock and students could use respective e-books.’ ‘Students would have to bear a nominal cost and they could save money spent on purchase of expensive books’ he added.

Along with this, the Vice Chancellor also inaugurated a new model class room equipped with cyber facilities and promised to upgrade the library to modern standards.

The VC aims to improve the university and bring it up to standards with the modern world.

University established in 2012 by the then Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Ghazi University is based in Dera Ghazi Khan and has a total of 5,500 students.

The Pakistani government has recently taken initiatives to introduce free laptop schemes, notably the PM’s National Laptop Scheme, but this is a first official move by a university to give out free smartphones to their students to aid them in their studies.
