‘Find Wi-Fi’ will list the locations of nearest access points along with their Network name and business hours

You will be absolutely excited to hear, you don’t need to hunt much for Wi-Fi passwords anymore. Facebook’s new feature helps you to make you search a little bit easier.

Facebook has globally launched its newer designed ‘Find Wi-Fi’ feature to help mobile users finding nearby Wi-Fi hotspot.

‘Find Wi-Fi’ feature will list the locations of nearest plotted access points along with their business hours and network name. So wherever you are, you can easily map the closest connections when your data connection is weak.

The social networking giant had last year begun testing a “Find Wi-Fi” which highlighted free, public Wi-Fi networks but this option last year was only available only for iOS users in select countries.

However, in a blog post last Friday, Facebook announced users worldwide on both iOS and Android devices will soon gain access to “Find Wi-Fi.”

“We’re beginning to roll out ‘Find Wi-Fi’ everywhere in the world on iPhone and Android. We launched it in a handful of countries last year and found it’s not only helpful for people who are travelling or on-the-go, but especially useful in areas where cellular data is scarce,” Alex Himel, Engineering Director at Facebook.

The company explains the addition is useful for those times when you’re travelling, but especially so when you’re in an area where cellular data is “scarce,” it says.

This should be a handy tool that will be of particular interest to travellers who are trying to stay within their monthly data allowance while abroad, but anyone with data limitations — or anyone who wants to get their laptop online without having to tether — can take advantage of it.

How “Find Wi-Fi” feature works?

To find how the Facebook’s new feature works, you need to:

  • Open your Facebook app
  • Click on the ‘More’ tab and find ‘Find Wi-Fi’
  • In the ‘Find Wi-Fi’ tab you may need to turn it On
  • Afterwards, the feature automatically detects places with free Wi-Fi near the user’s location and marks them on their map.

You can then browse the closest available hotspots on a map, and learn more about the businesses hosting them.
