Pakistan and Czech Republic to explore business prospects

ISLAMABAD – Czech Republic is highly interested in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has the potential to link China, South Asia and Central Asia, Ambassador of Czech Republic to Pakistan Jan Fury said.

His Excellency Jan Fury highlighted the significance of CPEC at a meeting of Pak-Czech Business Council at Federation Of Pakistan Chambers Of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by Chairman of the council Amir Atta Bajwa, VP FPCCI Johar Ali Raki, President ICCI Atif Ikram Sheikh, Chairman Coordination FPCCI Malik Sohail, Zahid Maqbool and representatives of Sargodha and Faisalabad chambers of commerce.

Ambassador of Czech Republic also informed the participants that “a high-level Pakistani delegation is due in Prague shortly with which we would take up many issue including bilateral trade and cooperation, CPEC and route to the resource-rich central Asia.”

Czech Prime Minister will also visit Pakistan, Jan Fury informed. The Prime Minister’s visit will cement ties between both countries that have good scope for cooperation in the fields of textile, steel, transportation, IT, electronics, and heavy machinery.

“Our trade with India is satisfactory but not as per the potential with Pakistan for which both the governments and the business community can play their role”, he maintained.

The Ambassador said that Pakistan’s major export is textiles which must be diversified. He also invited Pakistani businessmen to take part in the Europe’s oldest trade fair scheduled in September which will help explore avenues for enhanced collaboration and bring the business communities of the Czech Republic and Pakistan closer.

“We have to improve communication between the business communities of the two countries as the trade volume between the two countries is low”, he said.

Pakistani businessmen, represented by Amir Atta Bajwa, assured all out cooperation to enhance economic ties saying that they would not only heavily participate in the trade fair but also establish a Pakistan pavilion there.
