Over 1200 Pakistani policemen have lost their lives to terrorism in last decade
Police Martyrs’ Day (Youm-e-Shuhada) was observed with great reverence nationwide on August 4 to pay tribute to the sacrifices of cops who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Policemen, members of civil society, general public and social activists conducted rallies and Ceremonies in accordance with the day to pay tribute to Police martyrs.
Special prayers and Quran khwani in major cities of the country were arranged for the martyrs in numerous mosques.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa paid rich tribute to the martyrs of police, saying the sacrifices rendered by security forces would not go waste.
Military spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor, on behalf of the armed forces of Pakistan, has paid tribute to the martyrs of police force, Inter Services Public Relations said, “Salute to Suhadas of Police and their brave families from Pakistan Armed Forces.”
A function was held in Qila Gujjar Singh police lines in Lahore. IG Arif Nawaz and other officers visited Yadgar-e-Shuhada and laid floral wreaths, Quran khwani was also held for the martyrs.
In Karachi, a great tribute was paid to martyred traffic head constable Muhammad Khan who was shot dead at Abul Hasan Ispahani Road while regulating traffic. Sindh Inspector General AD Khawaja articulated that the sacrifices of the martyrs will never be forgotten.
In Peshawar, the main function in connection with the day was held at Peshawar. Police and FC contingents in Peshawar presented salute and laid floral wreaths on the graves of martyrs.
The Police Martyrs’ Day is being observed for the third consecutive year on the death anniversary of Shaheed Safwat Ghayur, the then commandant of Frontier Constabulary KP Police, who was martyred in a suicide attack on his vehicle near the paramilitary force’s headquarters on August 4, 2010.
