Ready, set, shop: Black Friday extravaganza hits Pakistan

Over the past few years, Black Friday has emerged as biggest day of shopping in the US, with retailers offering huge discounts and attractive time-constrained deals for shoppers. Black Friday is a US shopping tradition when billions of dollars are spent in shops and online in the span of 24 hours today. However, five years ago, the shopping event wasn’t as popular globally.

This year, few Pakistani online stores, such as Daraz, Kaymu, HomeShopping and Jovago, have also introduced Black Friday deals here, opening up new horizon of shopping extravaganza.

Daraz.pk announced a massive sale for Friday the 27th which thrilled Pakistani shoppers as the experience the new massive shopping sales. Daraz.pk has been partnering with big companies in the past and for Black Friday the big names on board are PTCL, Ponds, Mediatek, InnJoo and Easypay as official payment partners, offering an additional (up to) 25% off on products to customers who pay via Easypay on Black Friday.

Daraz Head of Communications Saman Javed says Black Friday has become a global phenomenon. “Why should Pakistan not be part of such an incredible global trend?” she asks. “When it comes to sales and discounts, we’re no different, we are true bargain hunters.”

Kaymu.pk also announced a similar Black Friday deals with up to 57% discounts on items in various categories. Kaymu said that this introduction mainly comprises of the offers that are essential for each user and comes with numerous benefits of discounts and amenities.

Daraz and Kaymu are the two largest online retailers in Pakistan and are associated with bringing the online shopping culture to Pakistan.

Following the trend set by Daraz and Kaymu, some other online brands also announced this sale, adding to the excitement of online shoppers in Pakistan.

HomeShopping gave the Black Friday deal a little twist by calling it White Friday. “Because in Pakistan, Friday is never black,” Home Shopping’s White Friday page reads. The online store has also set up a Facebook event page that invokes Friday’s religious significance in Islam. HomeShopping will offer a discount of up to 70% on all products and luckily it isn’t limited to a single day as the sale will start at 12 A.M. on 27th November and will continue till 11:59 AM on 30th November.

Jovago, one of the online hotel booking website, is providing up to 50% discount on the best hotels from Pakistan. This offer is starting from 27th November and is valid for the next four days. The main aim of Jovago is to draw people towards travelling across Pakistan; with this offer travel lovers can reserve their favourite hotel vouchers through Jovago’s app or website at half the original price.

Black Friday takes place in the US the day after Thanksgiving. It involves retailers cutting the price of their goods to encourage households to get back into shops after the US public holiday and it kickstarts the Christmas shopping period.
