Passengers all set for world’s longest flight to New York from Singapore
Singapore Airlines is resuming world’s longest flight route from Singapore to New York’s Newark airport, a “great circle” distance of 9,529 miles.
Flight SQ 22 is due to depart at 11.35pm (Singapore time) from Changi Airport in Singapore and will arrive in at Newark Liberty International Airport at 6am (New York time) on Friday.
During 18 hours flight time, it will cover a whopping 9000 nautical miles (16,700 kilometres) and will cross 12 time zones. The airline will initially operate the flight three times a week before increasing frequency to a daily service.
Singapore Airlines Flight SQ22 will use the long-range Airbus A350-900ULR (which stands for Ultra Long Range), configured to carry 161 passengers – 67 in business class and 94 in premium economy. The Airbus A350-900ULR will carry around 120 tonnes of fuel, and burn through about 90 percent of it along the way.

For the flight crew – which also includes two first officers and a 13-strong cabin contingent – the work load will be broken up, the airline said, with every person getting a mandatory minimum four hours’ rest.
