Toronto’s Consulate General of Pakistan also held a webinar to discuss textile export opportunities available in Canada

Canada has eased its travel advisory of Pakistan with a few exceptions, especially the border areas of the country. The tourists can now freely go to most tourist attractions in the country as per the advisory. In recent years, most western countries have eased their travel advisories for Pakistan as the security situation in the country has had a sustained improvement.

Advisor of the Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile, and Investment, Abdul Razzak Dawood welcomed the development and said it will help in further boosting the tourism in Pakistan as things move to normalcy after Covid.

“I am glad to share the good news that Canada has improved its overall travel advisory for most parts of Pakistan. This will further improve once the COVID-19 restrictions are removed. This will help in promoting tourism and economic activities in Pakistan,” said Dawood in a tweet post. “I wish to thank the Canadian High Commission for its support in this regard,” he added.

Webinar for textile trade opportunities in Canada

Toronto’s Consulate General of Pakistan held a webinar on the opportunities in the textile sector in Canada. It was told that Canada has a $28 billion textile business annually. Pakistan has a meager 1.3% market share in the textile industry in Canada and there is a huge room for development. The panelists included Babar Khan, owner of Multinational Export Bureau, Muhammad Sohail, Director Sales & Marketing, Canada Textile Incorporated, a leading importer of textile products in Canada and Kashif Mehtab Chawla, one of the owners of Al-Karam Towel Industries (Pvt.) Ltd.

The panelists discussed a number of reasons behind the fewer exports including the need for superior-goods production and the heightened tariffs applied on Pakistani products. The lack of research and development was also seen as the main factor along with the need for international certifications for the manufacturers. It was also emphasized that trade shows for Pakistani products in Canada are much needed.
